Nether portals do not permanently "remember" what portal in the other dimension they connect to. Often this can result in multiple Overworld portals connecting to the same Nether portal, or in returning to the Overworld at a different portal than you started at. If I teleported to the nether and tried a portal back to the overworld, I would wind up in stone most of the time -- I was many blocks off from the target portal in the overworld. A new portal did not manifest, I was just off destintion from where I should have wound up. And again - traveling to the nether doesn't work.

Sorted by: 1. oddly enough, the math seems to be off here. for reference, one block in the Nether is equivalent horizontally, not vertically, to 8 blocks in the Overworld, so a portal located at 1, 0, 1 would create/link to a portal at 8, 0, 8. this means that, with some quick math, your Nether ceiling portal should be appearing at
